MENT 2023: Italian artists DayKoda, LAZZARETTO and Capibara set to play at the festival

MENT Ljubljana, one of the leading showcase festivals and music conferences in Central and Eastern Europe and the largest event of its kind in the region, returns from March 29 to 31 with a brand new edition.

The festival gives up-and-coming artists from all over Europe and beyond the opportunity to perform in front of an international audience of both professionals and music enthusiasts. During the three-day event, performances range from independent rock, pop, electronica and folk rock to hip-hop and DJ shows: it’s up to you to find your new favourite artist!

The ninth edition features three Italian acts: DayKoda, LAZZARETTO and Capibara.

DAYKODA

Genre: Jazz/Electronic/Downtempo

Schedule: Mar 30 – Channel Zero – 22:45

Due to his eccentric approach to music-making and focus on experimental electronic production, especially its contamination with abstract genre elements, DayKoda is able to craft off-kilter expressions coloured by warm textures and twinkling drums that move through hazy downtempo and nu-jazz sonics. His music is inspired by the likes of Kamaal Williams, Ezra Collective and Nosaj Thing. He has received support by national and international media, such as BBC Radio 6, Brownswood and KCRW, and the Italian webzine Soundwall even named him ‘the Italian Flying Lotus’.

LAZZARETTO

Genre: Lo-Fi Indie/Dream Pop/Post-Rock

Schedule: Mar 31 – Klub Gromka – 22:30

LAZZARETTO is a young trio from Puglia. Their debut EP Sacramento, named one of the ten most important albums of 2021 by Rockit.it, is a sound mantra that grows and develops in various directions, from ambient post-rock to dream pop and warm electronics mixed with contemporary soul. Although they’re an Italian band, they sing in French due to the singer’s Belgian origins. Their hypnotic and surprising genre mixture echoes with the diverse artists they have shared the stages with in their short career, such as The Notwist, black midi and Benjamin Clementine.

CAPIBARA

Genre: Electronica/Progressive Pop/Live Act

Schedule: Mar 31 – K4 BIG – 00:30

Capibara belongs to the big names of the Italian electronic scene. He finds refuge in songs in which, hidden behind a mirror of futuristic electronica, urban rhythms, and African influences, you can sense his sincere pop tendencies. From the beginning of his musical career, he has always shown a unique vision, combining dub and Latin riddims with heavy percussion and acid memories, all the while strongly influenced by video game and anime soundtracks. He is also the founder of the Roman independent electronic music label White Forest Records.
